Born in Athens, Georgia; Dave picked up the electric bass guitar because he envisioned it was an instrument he could create with rather than simply imitate. Dave spent the late 1970's exploring bars & nightclubs soaking up bands in Atlanta & Athens. He met bassist Bill Rea (Glenn Phillips Band & The Supreme Court) who took Dave on as a student and taught him not only the fundamentals of the electric bass, but also expression and improvisation (Thanks, Bill).
Throughout the 1980's, Dave continued to work on his own bass technique always searching for ideas. He worked at a rehearsal studio in metro Atlanta and was fortunate to spend time with a variety of talented musicians who influenced Dave's approach to his own sound. In 1990, fate introduced Dave to Mark Bradley as they played together in a band for a mutual friend's birthday party. Coincidently, Jeff Catton was at that very same party and soon, the 3 were playing cover tunes in Jeff's garage. Ideas for songs were brought to rehearsals and as they wrote more & more, they threw out many of the covers. 15 years later Dave says, "It's still as exciting and fun as the first show we ever played!"
