Johnny Saphire

Johnny Saphire - Born in Atlanta, John first picked up a pair of drumsticks at the age of seven. After 30 years of playing the enthusiasm and intensity still shows. " I moved to the North Georgia Mountains 20 years ago and played lots of country music. Since I cut my teeth on heavy metal and new wave, playing country was like shifting gears. I enjoyed it. though." John was called on to play with Nate Morgan and the band "Hogleg" out of Jasper, Ga. "Blues was a new experience, but very fun to play." One Saturday night, "Hogleg" was the opening act at the Uptown Music Cafe. This is where John first heard the band Chronic Tendencies. "They blew me away...little did I know that a month later I'd be their new drummer." John goes on to emphasize; "This band marries the blues with some high energy rock-n-roll, and is very satisfying to perform with."

Johnny Saphire has toured and recorded with many bands in the metro Atlanta and north Georgia area. Perhaps his biggest claim to fame, so far, was in the eighties, when his band " The Throbs" won the 96 Rock battle of the bands, and had a chart hit.
